Funny enough, there are many more advertisements and illustrations, but it isn’t that different from the Workbaskets from the fifties and sixties. Aunt Ellen still writes notes and now has a book service, there’s crochet, quilting and knitting – love the reindeer by the way! – and while the earlier Workbasket didn’t know plastic canvas, that has been added to the repertory as well. The five! recipes for turkey stuffing can be used for Christmas and Thanksgiving, trying out a different one each holiday.
The advertisements are interesting in their own right. I never knew the existence of a paper bead making thingy, and maybe it’s still for sale but I think a couple of pieces of wood and copper wire would serve the same purpose, and would be a lot less fragile. Too many of those plastic items have broken after the plastic got too old. I had this actually quite expensive cone winder and when a piece of the base broke off, it became entirely unusable. I have a wooden and metal one from just after WW2 and that one still winds cones, and just needs the occasional bit of oil.
