ALEXANDRE – ALBUM DE CROCHET NO. 24

B-YS044 N. Alexandre & Cie., Album de Crochet No. 24
Four pages of crochet borders and a large and small medallion combined with speciality braids that unfortunately are not for sale anymore.
Small leporello, pink cover, four numbered pages folded double.
Scans donated and edited by Sytske Wijnsma.

This book features just two types of braids, the second one with the diamond shaped holes is called turtle lace. I don’t know the name of the first one. I’ve already lamented the unavailability of coronation cord earlier this year. And not only coronation cord went extinct, there were other speciality braids and laces such as these two that once were popular and now have all but disappeared from shops. If you are handy in bobbin lace or tatting or maybe even macrame you might make an approximation of these braids yourself, if you focus on thick-thin and the thick part having many picots to attach the crochet thread to. Crocheting with a very thin thread might also work. And there’s always etsy and ebay and such, although stocks are low and prices tend to be high. Once you do have such a braid, this booklet will show you why they were so popular – the designs are worked fast and look fabulous!
