BRINGING METAVERSE EDUCATORS TOGETHER is the theme for vwbpe 25 exhibit
Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education, now in its 18th year, focuses on the use of virtual reality and examines best practices in this space. Though most programming takes place in the Second Life environment, it also offers immersive experiences on other platforms. Outside of its programming, there is also the opportunity for various virtual world related education organizations to have exhibits at the conference. Virtual World Education Consortium took the opportunity to offer an exhibit, entitled “Bringing Metaverse Educators Together”.
Visitors to the exhibit first see a waterfall in the center, with three information posters on either side and a four sided kiosk in front of the waterfall. A seating area off to the left with two chairs and a firepit evokes the feeling of the relaxed atmosphere created for educators to network together, such as in the several Fireside Chats offered by educators throughout the week.
The three posters on the left offer more information about the previously mentioned Fireside Chats, the weekly Expert Series held on Fridays twice a month that showcase different educators reflecting on Serious Learning in the Metaverse, and a Student Research Exhibit that highlights past posters featured at Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education focusing on the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Student Challenge.
On the other side of the waterfall, the display offers information about the Quarterly Meetings that bring educators together to collaborate and document progress and best practices, more details on the Student Challenge where teams work together to build content based on judged rubric, and the Models of Teaching that provide in-world examples to educators as to how to teach in virtual worlds.
Two faces of the kiosk talk more about the various exhibits related to the student challenge, as well as information about the Info Center that Virtual Worlds Education Consortium offers for educators to learn about communities, fellow members, and educational landmarks worth visiting.
The other two faces on the kiosk explain the various Second Life region offerings that Virtual Worlds Education Consortium has in Second Life, as well as details about the new in-world and online publication Avatar Scholar.
