On 19 March of 2025, the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium took the Virtual Worlds Interest Group of the Association of College and Research Libraries (a division of American Library Association) on a virtual worlds tour of Cookie II, the group of islands that make up Metaverse Libraries in Kitely.
ABOUT THE AREA
The Cookie II area is made up of four islands which interconnect to a central island. The center island houses the Info Center, a joint effort between two Metaverse Libraries projects, Virtual World Education Consortium and Community Virtual Library. It is surrounded by four islands: one that serves as the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium Hub in Kitely, another that is home to the Hypergrid Resources Library (the Library being a joint venture of Virtual Worlds Education Consortium and the Community Virtual Library), the Community Virtual Library Digital Citizenship Museum, and an island that serves as the virtual world home to the Antique Pattern Library.
ABOUT THE VIRTUAL WORLDS TOUR
It began at the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium Hub, where quarterly connections and other activities are held.
Next, the tour took the members of the ACRL to each of these islands and highlighted the features of each one. Subjects discussed included digital literacy and digital legacy, as illustrated at the Digital Citizenship Museum.
The Antique Pattern Library highlights various patterns by illustrating them in the contexts in which they would have been used.
Specifically, the Hypergrid Resources Library contains information on the basics of how to “hop” from world to world in the OpenSim through links to blogs and other resources, as well as explanations of key terms such as regions.
Lastly, the tour came to the Info Center at the center island and took advantage of the lounge space to reflect on the tour.
